We caught up with Wolverhampton rapper/superhero Old Zedong.
Introduce yourself tell us how about your name Old Zedong?
I’m Old Zedong. My name is from the given name of The Great Helmsman Chairman Mao. Statistically, he’s the man to have saved the most number of lives on the planet ever, although your school would have told you the opposite.
Old Zedong is always in disguise; tell us about the mask and whole concept behind it?
It’s normal for a superhero to wear a mask when performing superpowers.
Who is Dumbo Winstanley?
Dumbo Winstanley is the family in loose association with Old Zedong. It’s the concept that spawned Old Zedong.
How did you get into making music?
My good friend’s dad made music. I remember we went to a practice/jam type session at the studio in Newhampton Centre, Wolverhampton. I can’t remember exactly how old I was maybe 14 or 15. Just went from there really. I think my bars were literally ‘I walked into a shop, I bought some pop, ye ye ye, ye ye ye’ lol.

Quotations includes features from Trademark Blud AKA Dead Hampton. Sophie AKA Baby God Munger and Hound Scoundrel AKA Baby Garvey. I just dropped a video for the track Sugar Plum.

It’s produced by Marley with interludes produced by Vital.
