Rapper Brotha Calhoun tells us about being inspired by Dre and Snoop and his new project.

Brotha Calhoun, where are you from and what’s the Hip Hop scene like there?

I’m from Columbia Tennessee a small town in middle Tennessee.  We have a lot of talented rappers, producers and singers but nobody made has it mainstream yet! But it does going to happen.

When did you first fall in love with Hip Hop?

Honestly I’ve been in love with music for as far back as I can remember. The moment I realised that this is what I wanted to do. Was after the first time watching Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg’s Nuthin But A G Thang video.  That was the moment that I fell in love with hip hop.

What artists where you listening to back then and why?

Growing up I listened to a lot 2pac, Snoop Dogg, Playa Fly, 8ball and MJG, Skinny Pimp, Tommy Wright III, UGK just to name a few. I can go on and on. But other than those, I also grew up listening to the local artists where I’m from.

How did you get in the game?

After I saw that, G Thang video it’s been on. I started writing a few lines here and there way back then. I’ve been writing and recording for years. I got so much unreleased music it’s crazy. But long story short I just said fuck it, it’s now or never. It’s time to get out here and do my mothafuckin thang my way. So I got serious and started investing in myself putting it in ya face.

What have you released so far?

I’ve got a mixtape out now titled, Memoirs of the Lone Gangster. I released last year you can find that on MyMixtapez.com, Datpiff, Soundcloud, YouTube, Mixtape Factory and more. I’ve got a few songs from my upcoming mixtape, Get Used 2 Me on YouTube right now. Be sure to go and check them out.

You also go by the name Lando Blakk, tell us about that?

That’s just a name I gave myself, It’s kind of like an alter ego or something. I got a couple different mothafuckaz in me… but don’t tell anybody though.

So, tell us about your new project, Get used to me.

Get used 2 me, is dropping real soon so stay tuned. I named it, Get used 2 me because that’s just what it is. I’m here to stay. You haven’t got to like it or love it but I’m here so, get used to me. If you don’t like it look the other way. I’m in my own lane doing me trying to make a living doing what I love to do. This mixtape is full of bangers too. I’m not lying your all going to love this.

For people who haven’t heard your music before, describe your style? What can people expect to hear from you?

I’ve got my own style. I don’t follow trends or try to sound like anybody else. I just go inside myself and let my heart speak.  You can expect a lot of reality, self-reflection and things of that nature. Basically I’m just doing me. I’m not much of a talker so music is kind of like therapy for me.

Whether I’m writing, recording or just listening to music it does something for me.  If you’re into real music you won’t be disappointed when you listen to my music. I’m talking bout this is reality rap at its finest mayne.

Where will people be able to purchase/stream the album?

It will be available on mixtape platforms like MyMixtapez, Datpiff, Soundcloud, Spinrilla, YouTube and probably a few more.
